Christopher Street runs through the West Village in lower Manhattan, and by 1975 it had become something that would have been unimaginable just a decade earlier — a street where gay men walked openly, where the community had claimed its ground and was not giving it back. Six years after the Stonewall Inn on that same block sparked a movement, the neighbourhood was alive with bars, bookshops, and men who had found each other and decided to stay.
